Maurizio Tamellini

Maurizio Tamellini started his academic studies in 1974 in Verona (the city where he was born) and was taught by Loredana Venchi. In the following years (1975/1976) he obtained a scholarship to study in the prestigious “Accademia Nazionale di Danza” of Rome, directed by Giuliana Penzi.

In 1977 he moved to Paris and joined the “Ballet Classique de Paris” company.
He participated in numerous summer tours with the “Arena di Verona” and then with the “Teatro Comunale” of Florence, directed by Euvgenij Polyakov, (1979-1980).

In 1980 he joined the corps de ballet of the “Teatro alla Scala” in Milan and from then onwards he took part in all of the most important productions playing numerous soloist roles, including: Tybalt in “Romeo and Juliet” by J. Cranko; Boabdil in “Cristoforo Colombo” by A. Mendez; Lorenzo in “Don Quixote”, Chinese in “The Nutcracker”, one of the 4 Princes in “Sleeping Beauty” both by R. Nureyev; Victor in “Yerma”by D.R Soffer; Rothbart in “Swan Lake” by V. Bourmeister; Zampanò and the 4 soldiers in “La strada” and one of the 3 thugs in the “Miraculous Mandarin” both by M. Pistoni, “Treze-Gestos” by O. Roriz, The father in the “Prodigal son” and the 3rd theme from “The four temperaments” by G. Balanchine, Paride in “A. Lecouvrèur”, The lead coachman in “Petrushka” by M. Fokine, “Moses and the Pharaon” cor. Micha van Hoecke, the first couple in “Jungle” by A. De Groat, “Streams” and “Memoria” by A. Ailey, “Indoors” by E. Monte, and “Nursery Songs” by Andrè Prokowsky, Pas de quatre in “Etudès” by H. Lander, “The eagle’s nest” by Louis Falco, the role of a Partisan in “The Firebird”, “Bolero” both by M. Béjart, the poet in “The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore” by J.Butler.

In 1984 he participated in the Giffon Film Festival with the dancer Pina Testa.
In 1985 Ronald Petit invited him be a solist in his “Ballet National de Marseille” where he danced l’Ogre in “Chat Botté”, “Symphonie fantastique”, “L’Ariesienne”, “Design for four” and in numerous other productions from the repertoire of the Marseille dance company.

Maurizio Tamellini he choreographed “L’Histoire du soldat” music by I. Strawinskij for “Musicanovecento”.

He danced in a number of different television programs aired on the Italian national channels: “Aboccaperta”, “Il cappello sulle ventirè” and “Mademoiselle Nitouche”.
With the “Complesso del Balletto Ambrosiano” (Milano), directed by W. Venditti, Maurizio danced in “Moro”, “Petrouchka” and in “I Commedianti”.

He founded, together with other dancers, the company “77 bis dance”.
He signed the costumes for “Workshop ‘89” for the dance company of the “Teatro alla Scala” at for the “Teatro di Porta Romana” in Milan and, in the same year, he partecipated in the Festival of Todi with the” Balletto di Varese”.

He is married with Katya Pianucci, a colleague from the corps de ballet of the Teatro alla Scala and his daughter Susanna attends the dance school of the Teatro alla Scala.
In the course of his carrier he has been invited to give repertoire and ballet classes in many prestigious academies and dance schools both in Italy and abroad.

In addition, in January 2009, he collaborated with some of the italian middle school institutes (scuole medie) in Milan. He taught History of Dance to the final year students through the project “Orientamento” (“Istitututo Sperimentale Rinascita A.Livi – Milano). In May 2014 he met the pupils of the middle school “Verdi” of Corisico (MI).

In 2007 he designed a line of T-shirts working as co-producer with “Porselli” for their prestigious dance line.
Lately, he dedicated himself assiduously to teaching classical ballet, promoting stages and preparing pupils for auditions and competitions in various Italian and foreign theatres.

In 2010 he was nominated Artistic Director of the Dance Department in the Theatre V. Alfieri di Castelnuovo di Gafagnana (LU) (2010/2016).
In 2010 and 2012 he took part as a ballet teacher in the second and forth edition of the “Milano Danza EXPO.”
In the same year he started collaborating with “Firenze&Danza” as a juror and as a teacher in their summer workshop 2012/2013, and he also taught at “Mad4Dance” in Palermo in 2013 and 2014, and in 2017 in Rome. He was the President of prestigious juries in many famous dance competitions and an examiner in various Academies and Federations.
In July 2014 he was part of the jury for the program “Una Stella sta nascendo” with Garrison Rochelle in Bronte (CT). He organised various Open Classes with “Moma Studio” in Milan and “Arbobaleno Danza.” He also collaborated with the Hamlyn school and the Opus Ballet of Florence.
In May 2014 he was awarded a certificate of merit from the Mayor of city of Caselnuovo di Garfagnana for his work as Artistic Director of the Theatre V.Alfieri. In July the new administration of the city reconfirmed his role as Director of the Theatre.
He collaborated with “Principessa Dancing School” of Milan, directed by M. R Fascilla, and in 2017 he took part in the “Progetto Formazone Classica” as an academic.
In 2014 he taught classical ballet in the artistic residences ,Sestriere and Bergamo,of Premio M.A.B. of Milan, and in 2016 he gave lessons to professional dancers in M.A.S. of Milan.
He was awarded a certificate of merit by UNICEF in the 22ndedition of “Vigevano Danza 2014”.
The 1st constituency of the city of Verona and the association “SOLEDARTE” invited him to represent the ballet world in the 13th, 14th and 15th edition “I colori della Danza” at the Roman theatre of Verona and in 2016 he organized as a guest the 1st Galà di Danza.
In 2015 he took part in the manifestation in favour of UNICEF in Vigevano and from 2014 to 2016 in the theatre of the Casinò of Sanremo.
From November 2015 to June 2016 he was the first Classical Dance Artistic Director “On Ballet” Performing Arts Academy – MOVEON Milano.
In November 2016, together with numerous other prestigious names of the Dance world in Italy, he appeared in the television show STASERA CASA MIKA on RAI 2.

In June 2017 he attends the presentation of the book “Stelle della danza sotto il cielo di Nervi” at the Theater Carlo Felice in Genoa with other distinguished professional ballet people and with the author and journalist Francesca Camponero. He then collaborates with the centre Studi Danza Mojud of Genoa teaching an advanced ballet studies course to the students. He also teaches at the prestigious Austrian Company Euroballet Sankt Polten.

On 25th November 2017 the ASI association awards him the title of “Cavaliere dello Sport” with the patronage of the Italian Ministry of the Interior.

In 2018 he participates in the television program on RAI 1 “Roberto Bolle – Danza con me” with some colleagues from the Corps de Ballet of the Teatro alla Scala.
In march 2018 he has obtained the qualifying Ballet Master Diploma from the F.I.D. Federazione Italiana Danza (Italian Dance Federation).

In May 2018 he took a Masterclass and was invited as a Judge to the Competition ” Festival Internazionale di Danza” at the Palace of Culture Dobrinin in Yaroslavl (Russia).
He was part of the examination board at the Residence M.A.B. 2018 (Bergamo,Italy) and he assisted the choreographer Luciano Cannito in the rehearsal of his work ” Exposition” performer at the Gala of 3rd June 2018 at the Manzoni Theater of Milan.

During the month of July 2018 has collaborated as a Dance critic with the online portal of the Journal ” Dance & Culture” and the following month he has given the Certificate of ” Guest Teacher ” by the West Finland College ,Huittinen after taking a week of Masterclass there.

On 10 December 2019 at the Auditorium of the G. Verdi Civic Center of the municipality of Segrate (MI), he presents his book “Nonsola(mente)danza” in the presence of the Étoile Luciana Savignano and in January 2020 represents it in the television program “Sei a casa” of the television station Telearena.

In January 2020, in the show “Sei a casa” for the Telearena television channel, presents his book “Non sola (mente) danza”, in the month of July he was appointed Co / Artistic Director of the Dance sector of the Arena Conchiglia Theater, of the former Convent of the Annunziata in Sestri Levante (GE) and of the “Festival dei 2 Mari”.

Since January 2021 he has held a dance column in the monthly culture and entertainment magazine “Riflettorisumagazine”, and takes part in the television program “Sei a Casa”
on Telearena.
